# Emergency action plan — trainer checklist

**Customize this for each training location and review it with your insurer.** This is an operational checklist, not a replacement for current CPR/AED training, local emergency protocols, or professional advice.

## Before sessions

- Keep CPR/AED certification current and know the expiration date.
- Confirm the full address, access instructions, and best emergency entrance for in-person sessions.
- Know the nearest available AED and how to access it; never assume a private home has one.
- Keep a charged phone accessible.
- Confirm the client’s emergency contact and any relevant screening follow-up privately and securely.
- For Zoom sessions, confirm the client’s current physical location at the start of each session and obtain a reliable way to contact them or someone nearby.
- Ask about immediate changes in symptoms or ability to exercise.

## If a client becomes ill or injured

1. Stop exercise; make the area safe and do not move the client if a serious injury is suspected unless needed to prevent immediate danger.
2. Assess responsiveness and breathing within your training and certification.
3. Call 911 for a life-threatening emergency or when in doubt. Provide the exact location and follow dispatcher instructions.
4. Get an AED if available and use it only as trained; provide CPR/first aid within current training.
5. Notify the client’s emergency contact when appropriate.
6. Do not leave the client alone unless necessary to get emergency help.
7. Record objective facts, times, actions, and witnesses as soon as practical. Keep the incident record private and notify your insurer promptly.
